The Health Protection Agency (HPA) is an independent organisation dedicated to protecting people's health in the United Kingdom. Combining public health, scientific expertise and research within one organisation, the Agency protects the threat to health from infections, environmental hazards and emergencies which can include chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear threats.
The Personal Dosimetry Service (PDS) provides services to over 4,000 customers working with Ionising Radiations over a cross section of organisations which covers industrial and medical workers. As a commercial service PDS is offered to customers both inside and outside the UK with the issuing of over 400,000 dosemeters per year. All the services are approved by the UK's Health and Safety Executive to comply with the requirements of the Ionising Radiations Regulations 1999.
